Sweet: Treats to Share

Sweet Treats to share HR
Sweet: Treats to Share is a brand new book (in stores from today) that is packed with more than 80 irresistible recipes from some of New Zealand’s best-loved bakers.  You’ll find recipes from such baking legends as Alexa Johnston, Allyson Gofton, Annabelle White, Dean Brettschneider, and Kim Evans.
You’ll find recipes for cakes, biscuits, slices, loaves, muffins, pies and more.  What we like about the book is that nothing looks too fancy or hard to make.  The recipes are for true baked good favourites; the type of treats to fill the tins with.  There’s recipes for Kiwi classics such as Afghan Biscuits and Ginger Crunch, to more contemporary treats like Fresh Cherry Ripple Cake and Maple Rhubarb Crumble Pie.  We’ll be sharing a recipe for a delicious White Chocolate Brownie from the book at a later date, so do check back here on the blog for that.
Pg 99 Pumpkin & Prune Cake LR
The food has been beautifully photographed by Manja Wachsmuth and styled by food writer Penny Oliver.  A lot of the baking is photographed on gorgeous vintage china, which when I checked the credits at the back of the book was pleasantly surprised to find that the photography props came from our friends at The Vintage Table – how cool is that?!  (I knew that plate the Ambrosia on page 165 is photographed on was familiar, it’s the one I used photographed my Peanut Butter Chocolate Truffles on and is one of my favourites from The Vintage Table).
page layout
Scattered throughout the book are cute little baking related quotes, such as “A baked gift shows you took the time to care” and “Baking is both an art and a pleasure” with which we couldn’t agree more.  The book begins with a rundown of a few baking basics and you’ll find contributor bio’s and a measurement conversion table in the back.  All this, along with the recipes, comes prettily packaged in a padded hardcover book with a marker ribbon.  It’s a delightful book which is sure to appeal, and would make an ideal Mother’s Day or Easter gift for home bakers.
Sweet, treats to share, baking book for mothers day 2014, published by Penguin NZ. Food styling by Penny Oliver, props from The Vintage Table or stylists/ photographers own
We have a copy of Sweet: Treats to Share to giveaway to one lucky reader.  To enter the draw to win, please leave us a comment (with your name) telling us what your favourite baked treat is to share with friends and family.  Entries close on Friday 4th April at 8pm and the winner will be chosen by a random draw.  However, if you can’t wait until then to get a copy, head along to your nearest good book store.  Sweet: Treats to Share will be hitting the shelves today.

Raspberry Tarts and a Nutrafresh Baking Pack Giveaway!

Raspberry Tart 3
These have to be one of the quickest and easiest sweet treats I have ever whipped up and they taste like summer (thanks to Nutrafresh) – which is still a few months away here in NZ. I made them for Mel and Simon when they visited last weekend to share their pictures and stories from their travels.

Ingredients:
12 store bought pastry cases (you can make your own if you have time)
100 grams white chocolate, melted
¾ cup frozen raspberries, defrosted
1 cup cream
2 tablespoon Nutrafresh raspberry powder
1 tablespoon icing sugar
Whittakers white chocolate and raspberry chocolate for decoration

Raspberry Tarts
Method:
Place tart shells on a clean flat work space and evenly coat the bottom with melted white chocolate.
While your chocolate sets mash up your frozen raspberries until there are no lumps, if you want to remove seeds you can push it through a sieve.
Spoon even amounts of raspberry on top of the chocolate, as well as adding taste and creating a lovely layering effect the chocolate stops the raspberry from seeping into the shell case and making it soft.
In a mixing bowl place cream, raspberry powder and icing sugar, mix on a medium to high speed until it reaches a consistency you can pipe with.
Pipe (or spoon) cream on top of your raspberry, I used a Wilton 2D tip.
Decorate with shavings of white chocolate (I used Whittakers white chocolate and raspberry) or you could sprinkle some of the sparkling raspberry powder on top.

Raspberry Tart 2
Now, the GIVEAWAY mentioned in the title: If you would like to make these delicious but easy tarts and are after some Nutrafresh powder to do so, you can win yourself a baking pack with EIGHT different powders simply by telling us what you create with them in the comments below, be sure to leave your email so that we can contact the winner. We have made fudge with them, Perky Nana cupcakes and one of our readers has let us know she has made blueberry marshmallows with it! There is also a heap of inspiration here on the Nutrafresh website.

Nutrafresh Giveaway
We will draw a winner at 5pm, Wednesday 14 August 2013 using a random number generator.  The competition is open to NZ residents only. Help us to say a big thank you to Nutrafresh by checking them out on Facebook!

Profiline PushPan Giveaway!

 Non-stick Cross Section
We were so excited to log into Facebook last week to discover that we had hit the 5,000 fan mark! To celebrate this milestone we are having a giveaway.  Profiline PushPans have kindly given us three prize packs, each consisting of 2 x 20cm, 1 x 24cm and 1 x 26cm of their amazing PushPans (RRP $199.90 per pack) to giveaway as a thank you to our wonderful fans.  Yup, three prize packs worth $199.90!

Push Pan 5142
So, what is a PushPan?  Well, they are loose based cake pans that are completely watertight and leak-proof, making baking cakes easier than ever. The Profiline PushPan is a baking innovation that seems too good to be true – until you try it; we’ve been trialling them and have baked the most perfect cakes in this pan, it is amazing!

Pan in waterbath
An exciting world first, each pan has a uniquely integrated silicone seal on its loose base which guarantees that not a bit of cake mixture will make its way out of the pan.  And, since not a drop of water can get in they’re incredible for baking a cheesecake in a water bath, without the worry of fashioning a lining or wrapping your pan in foil first.

482737_536185556431544_1852082833_n
Advanced patented technology means you can push out any depth of cake with ease, releasing your creations for perfect presentation every time.  Just place the pan on a tall can from your cupboard then push down evenly to release the base. Perfect for your cakes, cheese cakes, quiches, pies - even ice cream desserts!

Check out the PushPan website to find out about your nearest stockists.  You should also check out their Pinterest page for some serious cake baking inspiration (and follow ours too!).

To enter the draw to win yourself a pack of three different sized tins, leave us a comment below (click where it says ‘comments’ next to the ‘posted by’ information) telling us what your favourite cake is.  Make sure you include your name and either leave your email address, like us on facebook or follow the blog so you can find out if you have won.

GIVEAWAY!!!

cupcake papers
Because we have been slack little bloggers and I have a lot of paper baking cups already, we are giving some away.  Wahoooo!
The prize consists of two packs of Robert Gordon paper baking cups, each containing 50 beautiful cups – one pack of black and white stripes, and another of black with white spots.  Then, there is a pack of Paper Eskimo baking cups – 25 red cups with white stars.
Wanna win them?  You can enter in two ways:
1. Leave us a comment on this post.
2. Sign up to blogger and become a public follower (there’s a link on the right).
Easy huh?  And, if you are super excellent and enter both ways, well, you have two entries into the draw :)
The prize will be drawn next week on Monday the 28th (I’m thinking a pull a lucky name out of a hat draw).  That gives you plenty of time to tell your friends to enter too.  Hopefully that means if you miss out and they win, they’ll share with you :P
The winner will be announced on the blog and will be contacted via email.
