Our friends at Food TV have a real treat planned for us this month with new seasons of some of our favourite shows as well as three very cool one off specials – two of which are hosted by Martha Stewart, who makes perfection look easy! Baker’s will delight in all this delicious viewing material.
Charly’s Cake Angels: Sunday’s 2.30, 6.30 and 10.30pm from 6 October
Charly’s Cake Angels is one of my personal favourites, I’m very excited that they are back in a brand new season. Venturing down the rabbit hole into a world jammed with ‘Eat me!’ cakes, it’s a bewitching and visual feast where every cake is a work of art, lovingly created in Charly’s candy-striped bakery. Charly’s incredibly talented and insanely creative team tackle impossible cakes with passion, promise, frustration, arguments, tears and laughter – all the ingredients needed to make a magical cake and an unforgettable series. Tune in for inspiration galore!
There are also two very handy Martha Stewart specials playing on Food TV this month. The first is The Art of Wedding Cakes, screening on Saturday 12 October at 3.00, 7.00 and 11.00pm. We all know that delectable and delightful wedding cakes are the sweet finale to a magical day and are now more of an art form than ever before. Brides and grooms are putting their personal touches on the outside and inside of the most important dessert of their lives. This special event allows you to join Martha Stewart and an array of experts, as they demonstrate first-hand the creativity and passion that goes into the art of wedding cakes and the most delightful and delicious cake creations.
The second of the two Martha ‘Living’ specials is the one I’m most excited to share with you, Cookies, which screens on Saturday October 19 at 3.00, 7.00 and 11.00pm. Cookies are the things I found most difficult as a beginner baker, spreading too much or taking a bite only to discover I baked a small rock! Join Martha as she shares her secrets and tips with you, whether baking for a crowd, or simply surprising someone special, we can all agree that cookies are the treat that never disappoints. In this special Martha shares some of her favourite cookie recipes in this one-hour special, Martha Stewart’s Cookies. From the soft and chewy goodness of an Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookie to the rich and dense decadence of a Chocolate Mint Sandwich, Martha Stewart’s Cookies is the perfect place to find tantalising treats to bake and to share!
The third and final special for the month is a spin off of the Great British Bake Off series and is The Great British Wedding Cake, it will screen on Saturday 26 October at 3.00, 7.00 and 11.00pm. In this special you can watch renowned baking writer Mary Berry and professional baker Paul Hollywood explore the history of the Great British wedding cake. They look at its dramatic change through the eras, from the earliest Tudor creation and the extravagant Victorian period, to wartime Britain, the affluent eighties and the present day.
Mary and Paul also set the ultimate challenge to the three finalists from 2010's Bake Off, to make and bake two spectacular wedding cakes each, one traditional and one contemporary, in just 16 hours.
So, there is lots to watch on Food TV (SKY channel 9) this month, especially if you are a bride to be - with not one but two wedding cake specials – *cough, cough, Mel*!
